"Unsexy" Products: My Favourite Everyday Essentials

In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share the "unsexy" products in their everyday essentials.

In the world of beauty and self-care, there’s often a spotlight on glamorous, Instagram-worthy products with sleek packaging and influencer endorsements. However, a recent trend on TikTok is turning the spotlight on “unsexy” products—everyday essentials that may not be flashy but are loved for their effectiveness and practicality.

The trend gained popularity from TikToker Sophia Pauline’s viral video, where she shared her favourite “unsexy” products that she believes “just work.” These products are not about extravagant claims or price tags; they’re about simplicity, reliability, and meeting everyday needs.

Here are just a few of my "unsexy" everyday essentials and why they're apart of my routine.

1. Vaseline Cocoa Radiant

This body lotion is a staple in my skincare routines. Its hydrating formula, keeps skin moisturized and soft, while also smelling incredible. It’s a go-to product for combating dry skin and achieving a healthy glow.

2. Vaseline Lip Therapy Balm Tube

Another Vaseline favorite, this is a must-have for nourished and moisturized lips. It's no Summer Fridays but it is way more affordable while still being hydrating.

3. Hypochlorous Acid Spray

While the Tower 28 SOS spray has gained popularity, the off-brand hypochlorous acid sprays found on Amazon are just as great for a fraction of the cost. This versatile spray is known for its antibacterial properties, making it a go-to for cleansing and soothing skin.

4. Lactaid Pills

For those with lactose intolerance, Lactaid pills are a game-changer. I never leave the house without these, you never know when you're going to need them! It’s a simple solution that allows me to indulge in my favourite dairy foods worry-free.

5. Head & Shoulders Shampoo

Head & Shoulders may not be considered a glamorous shampoo, but its effectiveness in combating dry, flaky scalps has earned it a spot my favourite “unsexy” products. I don't typically reach for the bottle every hair wash but it's in rotation when my scalp starts to feel dry. It’s a strong choice for maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.

6. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5

This face location is a saviour for the dry, eczema-prone skin around my eyes. It's soothing and repairing to alleviate dryness and irritation. It is also the best choice for those with sensitive-prone skin.

The beauty of “unsexy” products lies in their practicality, reliability, and ability to address everyday needs. They may not have the flashiest packaging or the trendiest endorsements, but they are trusted companions in daily routines. Sometimes, the true beauty lies in simplicity and functionality.

What are some of your favourite "unsexy" products?

Xoxo,

Laura from Olivia + Laura
