I'm an Outfit Repeater & You Should Be Too

In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share the benefits to being an outfit repeater like Lizzie Maguire.

As someone who loves fashion, I thrive in the world of outfit repeating. I understand —how can I claim to be a fashion lover while having the audacity to wear the same outfit more than once? Let me explain: For me, the excitement of fashion isn’t always about wearing brand new clothes. It’s about challenging unique style that transform familiar outfits into something new and exciting.

And it's also more sustainable, which is a plus! In a world that often promotes constant consumption and fast fashion, outfit repeating is an amazing act of sustainability and owning your style.

THE BENEFITS

  1. Sustainable Fashion: The fashion industry is one of the most resource-intensive industries globally, contributing to pollution, waste, and carbon emissions. By wearing the clothes you already own multiple times, you reduce the demand for new clothing production, thus decreasing your carbon footprint and promoting sustainable fashion practices.

  2. Girl Math: Outfit repeating can also save you a considerable amount of money in the long run. Instead of constantly buying new clothes to keep up with trends or social pressures, investing in timeless pieces that you can wear repeatedly allows you to build a versatile wardrobe without breaking the bank. This mindful approach to shopping helps you prioritize quality over quantity and make informed purchasing decisions.

  3. Ignite your Creativity: Contrary to popular belief, outfit repeating doesn’t mean wearing the same exact outfit every day. It encourages creativity by challenging you to mix and match different pieces in your wardrobe to create fresh and unique looks. Experimenting with layering, accessorizing, and styling techniques allows you to showcase your personal style and express yourself authentically through your clothing choices.

THE TIPS

  1. Mix and Match: Pair a dressy blouse with casual jeans, or layer a statement jacket over a basic top. Mixing contrasting styles, textures, and colors adds visual interest and keeps your outfits dynamic.

  2. Play with Accessories: Swap out your shoes, bags, belts, and jewelry to change the vibe of your look. Bold statement jewelry can dress up a simple outfit, while sneakers can add a casual, sporty touch.

  3. Layer, Layer, Layer: Layering isn’t just for staying warm! Try layering a sweater over a dress or a button-up shirt under a sleeveless top. Experimenting with layering allows you to create versatile outfits suitable for different seasons and occasions.

  4. Incorporate Trends Sparingly: While it’s tempting to embrace every fashion trend, incorporating trends sparingly can make your outfits feel current without being too predictable. Choose one or two trendy pieces to feature in your outfit, keeping the rest of the look classic and timeless.

  5. Rotate and Refresh: Regularly rotate your wardrobe and refresh your outfit combinations. Keep track of outfits you’ve worn recently to avoid repeating the exact same look too often.

Ultimately, the key to successful outfit repeating is confidence. Own your style choices and wear each outfit with confidence. Remember that your attitude and how you carry yourself can elevate any outfit, making it feel fresh and stylish every time you wear it.

And don't be an outfit rememberer.

Xoxo,
