Our No-Makeup Makeup Routines

We all know Olivia & Laura have a great fashion sense but have they mastered makeup as well? You can be the judge as you take a glimpse into O&L's daily makeup routine.

The “No Makeup” Makeup look has been all over the runways and street fashion for a while now. As a result, brands like Glossier and MILK are profiting off this minimalistic trend and have dedicated their brands to the low-maintenance girl. Now, being the laziest high-maintenance people, this is a trend we can get behind.

Here are some must-have products we use to perfect this effortless look.

Olivia's Routine

Aside from fashion, makeup is the second best thing! I watch countless beauty Youtube tutorials and own an assortment of beauty products. The issue is I lack some finesse in my technique, but the no-makeup makeup look I have perfected! You can see me rocking this no-makeup makeup look all the time so, here are some products I use to make it happen.

Base

A minimal makeup look is great but, if you have facial redness, this can lead to some insecurities. And although this may defeat the purpose of the no-makeup look, I recommend a high coverage foundation. I use the Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless Foundation, and with one layer of this product, I can cover almost all the redness—concealer not needed.

Next, to solidify the base, I brush some IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder all over my face with a fluffy brush and, that is it! This step is essential to prevent the oily shine throughout the day.

Brows & Lashes

Brows have been all the rave in recent years, but in my opinion, bushy brows are even better. To achieve a natural bushy brow, I use two products; the IT cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brown Pencil and the Benefit Cosmetics Benefit 3D BROWtones.

The technique is simple. Begin at the brow arch, and outline it and from there, fill in your brows with light, short strokes.

Tied with a fluffy brow for me is a full set of lashes. I use the Maybelline Colossal Chaotic Lashes mascara (which unfortunately has been discontinued) to accomplish this look, though the real secret behind perfect lashes is an eyelash curler! Curling your lashes will make your eyes appear more open and will reduce the coats of mascara applied-- sticking with the minimalistic trend.

Extras

I am a huge fan of highlighter, and although I admit to highlighting to God's when this makeup technique first began, I think I've got the hang of it now. The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in the shade Opal is my favorite highlighter, and full disclosure, I've been using the mini size for two years now and have only recently begun to see the bottom of the tin. Sephora always put them on sale during the holidays, so mini sizes for the win!

Lastly, I make a kissy face, and in a 3's motion, I outline my temples, the hallows of my cheeks, and my jawline. To do so, I use the Rimmel London Natural Bronzer that gives me a soft summer glow. This bronzer is also super affordable at less than 10$ and acts as a dupe for the Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

Laura's Routine

I am by no means an MUA or beauty blogger but this is what I have learned throughout the years of doing my makeup. My go-to for any casual day out or a mini shoot day is this no-makeup makeup look. Actually, this is just my everyday makeup routine.

Base

For the base of this makeup look, I typically use The Ordinary Coverage Foundation. This foundation is so inexpensive ($6.80!!!) and has amazing coverage — what more could you want? Everyone knows The Ordinary is famous for their skincare products but this foundation is a must-try. For the days when I want lighter coverage, I mix equal parts of foundation and moisturizer for a more dewy finish.

I very rarely use concealer unless I wake up with dark under-eye bags or a pimple that needs some covering up. When I do use concealer, I use the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer since it is oil-free and hides my blemishes really well. I always buy my concealer in a lighter shade to brighten up under my eyes.

Brows & Lashes

I have very pale, blonde brow hair so I never skip this step. I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz to pencil in my brows so it looks like I actually have some. I don't do much else besides brush them out with a spoolie and voila!

I have been getting eyelash extensions for almost 3 years now and I love them so much! I know some people may have suspicions about doing their lashes but the key is finding a good lash tech. If you're in the Montreal area, send me a DM and I'll give some of my recommendations!

Though I haven't gotten them done since March, you know COVID and all, so I had to create a new lashes routine. I start by curling them and as I am curling them, I apply some coconut oil over top. This prevents the mascara from getting clumpy and it goes on so much smoother! Not gonna lie, I totally saw this trick on TikTok. I currently use the Maybelline Total Temptation Washable Volumizing Mascara that I picked up at the L'Oréal sale and it adds so much volume to my itty bitty lashes.

Extras

I always add bronzer on top of my foundation to add some color to my face. I am very pale, especially in the winter months, so I use the method that Olivia mentioned earlier then go in with a big fluffy brush and blend! My ride or die bronzer since high school is the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in shade Milk Chocolate. It blends so easily and is the perfect buildable color—oh, and it smells like chocolate!

I never leave the house without lip gloss! More specifically, Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer. I was totally influenced by Sophie Suchan (@sophiesuchan) and it did not disappoint!

Thanks for reading this week's article. We hope we've inspired you to play around in your makeup bags or venture out to try new products. Even though most of us are lounging at home all day, this routine could be a simple pick me up.

And if someone asked about it in your zoom class, remember, you woke up looking this flawless ;)

Xoxo,
