Tips to Fighting New Season Blues
In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share the tips and tricks they're using to stay motivated as the seasons change.
Saturday is the official start of fall and it is one of my all time favourite seasons. While I am excited for the fashion and the PSLs, I am dreading the fall blues that come with the season. Summer was all about living our best lives, and now we're back to routine, for some even school.
Thinking of this brings me down, which I am sure most can relate to. These could potentially be signs of seasonal affective disorder or SAD (fitting, I know). While this may sound strange, it is a genuine thing. People are most often affected during fall and winter months as the weather begins to change. But I'm sharing the tips and tricks I use to stay on track and fight these new season blues.
Create a Routine and Stick to It
While it is easier said than done, sticking to your routine is crucial. By setting regular sleep hours, carving out time for self-care and planning out your days, you create a routine. This helps keep you organized and reduces stress since you know exactly what's ahead of you.
My favourite tip to staying organized is to-do lists — never lose track of what you have to do and add things on as they come!
Move Your Body
Moving your body doesn’t have to mean a high intensity workout, it could also be quick 15 minute walk around the park. All forms of exercise are proven to reduce stress, anxiety and fatigue as well as improve your overall mood. So get your body moving this season!
My favourite tip to get motivated is to start an Apple Watch competition with friends! If you're extremely competitive (I know I am), challenging your friends is the best motivation to move your body.
Get Enough Sleep
A good night's sleep is intimately linked to reduced anxiety and stress levels, making it a potent weapon against the seasonal blues. Don't underestimate the power of sleep — wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day, everyday!
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is your secret weapon for boosting energy, regulating temperature, and maintaining glowing skin. I never leave the house without my emotional support water bottle anymore and it's been a game changer!
Find a Hobby You Love
Taking breaks throughout your day has been proven to increase productivity so be sure to fit some into your schedule! Whenever you need a break from school or work, do something that doesn't feel like work — for me, it's blogging or reading!
While this may not seem like much, all these little things truly make a world of a difference. Year after year, I follow these tips so you know they are proven to work!
Happy Fall!
