The Ultimate Galentine's Day Guide
In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share with their single readers some fun ideas for Galentine's Day.
A wise woman once said, "maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and, guys are just people we have fun with." That wise woman was fictional character Carrie Bradshaw but, her iconic line stuck with us nonetheless. Sure, having a boyfriend is enjoyable, but if you have spectacular besties as we do, why not honor them on Galentine's day.
What the heck is Galentine's Day, you ask?
According to the internet, this is a holiday that praises single ladies while recognizing the importance of healthy friendships. Because this day is so important, it gets its own date on the calender: February 13. Hence the name Galentine's Day.
NO, this is not a pity party! You will not sit with your girlfriends and cry eating Ben & Jerry's. You will get tf out of bed, read Olivia & Laura (that's us) and realize you are a BAD B*TCH. So take this day that recognizes loving relationships and celebrate it with your bestie, using the ideas from this blog post.
(Writers Note: Almost all these activities are COVID safe, and can be done virtually or IRL.)
We think the best way to spend a night in is with a laid back movie night with your besties. Our Galentine's Day tradition is watching a sappy, lovey dovey movie together with our favourite snacks and drinks of choice. We understand that due to COVID restrictions, it may be difficult to be with your gal pals right now however we have a solution! Download Netflix Party onto your computer to watch movies and chat with your friends at the same time. We also get on a Zoom call or FaceTime just so we could see each other too! So get cozy and enjoy your best friends company while watching a movie.
VIRTUAL WINE TASTING & COCKTAIL MAKING
If you're looking for something fun and creative to do with your gals, we suggest virtual cocktail making! There are a ton of local businesses that offer mixology classes or virtual wine tastings that you should definitely check out. If you're in the Montreal area, @MTLCraftCocktails on Instagram offers virtual mixology classes as well as pre made cocktail mixes that you could purchase directly from her website. Make these cocktails virtually with your besties over a zoom call and pair it with another activity, like movie night or game night!
We are taking advantage of all the winter outdoor activities we can this year! One of our favourite things to do is go for walks. We pick a new neighbourhood or park each time and just walk and talk. The fresh air feels the great and the conversation with your besties is always amazing. If you're looking to do something more adventurous, skiing or skating are always great outdoor activities. We love the après-ski vibes, cozied up with a warm drink and your best friends!
There's nothing that tests your friendship more than game night. But that's what makes it even more fun because you don't have to be polite as you call them out for cheating! If you are playing IRL, you can bring out Monopoly or challenge them to a game of just dance on the Wii. (that brings back memories, doesn't it?). However, if you are forced to be apart because of COVID laws and curfews, these are some great games to play with friends.
If you want to trick your friends try Among Us. The point of the game is to find the imposter in the group. Warning, this game is addictive and will surely keep you busy all night.
Houseparty is an easy way to video call your friends while playing trivia games, chips and guac (AKA Cards Against Humanity), Head's Up, and an assortment of other entertaining games.
Lastly, Virtual Escape Rooms have been all the rave recently and if you are looking to support a Montreal business try out EZKAPAZ. They have 3 online escape room scenarios that you can play with 3-7 of your friends.
One thing we do love about Valentine's day is the sweetness that comes with it— by that, we mean the chocolate and dessert. So, on February 13, treat yo self! Get together with your besties and bake or make something. Last Galentine's Day, we made chocolate covered strawberries by hand! It's not as easy as it looks, but totally worth it.
If you are doing this virtually, decide on a recipe beforehand and zoom call as you bake the same thing. There's nothing more boring than waiting for your oven to beep, so grab a friend and do it together.
Secret Cupid is the same concept as Secret Santa. Simply select a name from a group of people, and spoil them on this holiday. If you have a larger group of friends, then this can be an idea for your squad! Let's be honest if you had a bae, you would be spending money on their gift. So why not spend that same money on your friends who stand by you all year long and listen to all your guy drama. It doesn't have to be something big, but you can exchange gifts to show your affection for each other.
WATCH @SPENCEWUAH ON TIKTOK
Instead of sending your friends cat videos or TikToks about toxic guys, send them a @spencewuah video. If you don't know who he is, you are missing out! Essentially, he is this boy on the internet who yells at the girls and the gays to stop obsessing over ungrateful men. Sometimes he yells for fun too. So, just in case you need a reminder on Galentine's Day that you are THAT B*TCH, Spencer will help you out. And Spencer, honey, if you are reading this, we love you. PERIODT.
Because we love him so much, here's another.
BEFORE YOU GO!
All jokes aside, valentine's day can be hard for some of us because we are reminded that we are alone. But, in reality, we are not alone, we have our friends by our side, and a man is not that important. So as you get wine drunk with the girls this Galentine's day, remember to practice self-love. Now, if you need a reminder (because everyone does, sometimes) read this post from @sunnybloominspiration.
Once again, thank you for reading this week's blog post, loves! We appreciate all the single (and taken) readers who support us each week. Whether you spend Valentine's Day with your significant other or Galentine's Day with your best friends, we want to hear about it.
