Self Love Without the BS

In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share their steps to working on loving your damn self, without all the BS.

Let's get this straight, self-love is not stupid. But the idealized version of self-love we've created in society is full of BS (and we say this with kindness). For us, self-love is not being That Girl from TikTok. As much as we appreciate finding pleasure in waking up early, enjoying morning matcha lattes and getting some pilates in before 10 AM, this lifestyle isn't for everyone. So, we don't want to feel bad for not being able to or not wanting to lead this life.

Just like regular love, self-love is messy. Some days are better than others. But, sometimes, we need to get in the mood to love ourselves. So, in honour of Valentine's Day, we are getting you in the mood with the #NotetoSelf(Love) challenge.

This is 5 days and 5 simple tasks that put the focus on YOU and prompt you to do things that will make you happy.

From Thursday, February 10 to Monday, February 14 join us on our self-love journey! Be sure to follow us along on Instagram to see how we're tackling each challenge each day. Tell your friends to join us as well, and be sure to share with us on Instagram when you have complete a task.

Self-love is an uphill battle and even once this challenge is over, use these tools on bad days (and good days) as a reminder.

DAY 1: Call a Friend to Gas You Up

Self-love comes from the inside but we need a good support system to remind us every once and a while. So pick up the phone and call a friend or your mom and ask them to gas you up. Usually, our loved ones are always there to support us when they can.

PRO-TIP: Gas them up right back! Love is a two-way street.

DAY 2: Coffee + Dessert Date (Indulge Babes!)

Leave your house, go for coffee and indulge in some dessert. Get that croissant with your coffee or, check out Krispy Kreme for their Valentine's Day donut collection. Good food puts us in a good mood and, there is nothing more satisfying than feeding the soul.

DAY 3: Get Dressed + Get Drunk!

We don't want to promote alcoholism but, sometimes we need to get dressed up and unwind with a bottle of wine and, with love being in the air this Valentine's weekend, there is no better time! So go out (or stay in) with your significant other or the girls and enjoy this much-needed time with the people you love.

DAY 4: Go on a Hot Girl Walk

Exercising releases endorphins, powerful chemicals in your brain that energize your spirits and make you feel good. Moving your body doesn’t have to mean a high intensity workout, it could also be quick 15 minute hot girl walk. Put on your favourite playlist or podcast to get you moving. We suggest getting your besties to tag along too. Time to get moving!

DAY 5: #NoteToSelf(Love) — The Only Love Letter You Need

Journaling is the modern form of writing in a diary. It is one of the many ways to deal with overwhelming emotions and feelings. Today, we are focusing on how it provides an opportunity for positive self-talk.

Here are a list of journal prompts we will be answering today:

  • What’s one thing you’ve done (no matter how small) that you’re proud of yourself for?

  • What positive words would you use to describe yourself?

  • What made you really happy this week? Describe that feeling.

Thank you for reading this week's blog post! We hope you liked it and will join us on this 5-days of self-love journey. Self-love is something we should practice every day. But, we all need a reminder sometimes. So, take this as your reminder!

When we aren't posting here, we're posting on Instagram! Follow us to never miss out!

Hugs and Kisses,
