Must-Have Accessories

The fashion world is ever-changing, and there is always a new trend to try out. However, the cost of the latest trends takes a toll on one's bank account, and not everything is worth buying. That is why Olivia + Laura have compiled a list of the accessories you actually need in your closet.

Must-Have: Bags

Fabric Tote Bag

We highly doubt this is solely an Olivia and Laura issue, but we can never find a stylish purse that fits all necessary items! Especially on a day when we are out and about and need something to hold our water bottles, snacks, wallet, and lipgloss. Well, until now.

This fabric tote is the perfect addition to any casual look, and because of the neutral beige color, you can match it to every look! Also, the fabric material is washable and reusable. So, when you purchase this big, you receive a stylish, versatile and sustainable fashion piece.

We recently stumbled upon @artbyjulia.mtl on Instagram and fell in love with her fabric tote bags. When you follow her on IG, you can catch a glimpse of the stunning designs that she has printed onto the fabric tote bag that we now carry around everywhere with us. We are not exaggerating when we say she is a spectacular artist and a super kind girl! So O+L gang, give her a follow (once again at @artbyjulia.mtl) and support her up-and-coming business.

Belt Bags

Oh, how we love belt bags (AKA the fanny pack)! These bags have made a return in the fashion world in recent years, and we hope they are here to stay forever. These bags can be worn multiple ways-- across the body or around the waist-- and come in a plethora of fabrics ranging from leather to fabric materials.

Belt bags have become so popular that brands like Louis Vuitton have designed stunning pieces. Don't be fooled, because we're not talking about the fanny pack your dad is carrying around when we say this is a must needed accessory. However, not everyone can afford designer bags so, we've linked some more affordable fanny packs that you can buy right now from H&M, Little Burgundy and Matt&Natt!

O+L STYLE TIP: Just like @solanpitsch, use a fanny pack to synch a blazer to create a high fashion look. This way you can create an illusion waist and store all your neccesites close to your body.

Shoulder Bag

Move over cross body bags, because shoulder bags are all the rave in 2020. These cute little bags are the perfect addition to any denim look and the right accessory for a night out with your bf or the bbfs. There are so many ways you can style a look with one. Take Ms. @emmaleger for example: she styled an elegant Chanel shoulder bag with biker shorts and an oversized hoodie

Yet, you can also pair a similar bag with black pants and a denim blazer to elevate a chic look!

Unfortunately, Olivia has yet to purchase a shoulder bag, but she is always stealing lauras for photo ops. Don't be that friend, so go out and purchase your own!

Layered Necklaces

I know we keep saying that each of these items is a must-have accessory, but layered necklaces are really a must-have! The best part about layered necklaces is that you can achieve this look with jewelry you already have in your closet. All you need is to pick necklaces of different lengths and different sizes and organize them aesthetically on your chest.

If you think you don't have the right jewelry to achieve this look, you can always buy a layered set. We have already mentioned these necklaces on O+L, but we love them so much that we have to show you them again! This set is from Amazon and is only 16$ for three pieces (we're all about getting that bang for your buck). You NEED these necklaces or something similar because they are stunning and match perfectly with every outfit, from a dress to a jumpsuit.

Chunky Gold Hoops

Chunky gold hoops are a must-have accessory! They really bring a basic outfit to the next level. The fact that they’re chunky make them really stand out, even when you wear your hair down. But throw your hair into a low bun and these babies will be the star of the show! If you have a second piercing, you could also pair them with a smaller hoop in your second hole for the double hoop effect. Maddie Briell (@maddiebriell) styled these chunky gold hoops with a head scarf and sunglasses with matching gold design.

We love wearing them styled in a low bun! Michelle Infusino (@michelleinfusino) perfectly styled it how we envisioned. Love this so much for fall!

Chunky Rings

Chunky rings, just like the hoops are a must. And if they match, even better! Our favourite shop for matching affordable jewelry sets is Mejuri. The Croissant Collection is one of our personal favourites. Affordable and made for everyday wear!

Chunky rings act as a statement piece when your outfit is simple and not very loud. Perfect for a basic cropped tee and mom jeans look. These rings look especially good in your coffee flat-lays, just saying.

We love matching our scrunchies to our outfits! They are such a functional accessory, that can be styled in the hair or just worn on the wrist. The latest trend that we are loving is silk scrunchies!

Toni Rose, a local Montreal brand, is making adorable silk scrunchies in two sizes. The oversized scrunchie is definitely one of our faves! For the month of October, Toni Rose is donating $2 from every pink Dreamy Scrunchie sale to the Cure Foundation. So if you’re on the market for a cute, silk scrunchie, shop local and shop pink! So #PFG!

Claw Clips

Claw clips have been all the trend lately and we’re loving it! Another very practical accessory that is also so stylish. There are so many different ways to wear claw clips in your hair. The perfect way to throw your hair up for an effortless look.

Delaney Childs is the queen of claw clips and she knows it! We love the way she styles them on her medium length hair. Definitely turning to her account for inspo every time! She linked these claw clips on her story and they're on sale for only $8.50! Click here to buy a pack of 4 matte claw clips.

Baseball Hats

We love a casual outfit that’s completed with a baseball cap! It is perfect for those bad hair days or just days when you don’t feel like styling your hair. We feel you on that one. Not only does it hide your hair, but it elevates your casual outfits.

We love the way Josi Pellicano (@josipellicano) accessorizes her basic shirt dress with a cap. Definitely dresses down an outfit to make it more street style.

Thank you so much for reading this week's blog post! We hope that we have inspired you to go out or online shop for these accessories to spice up your style.

P.S: If you know an MTL business or are an MTL brand, send us DM so we can do what we can to support your small business.
