How to Layer for Late Summer

In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share how to layer for late summer/early fall transitional weather.

We're in the awkward weather stage where it's kind of cold yet kind of hot outside and, we're not too sure what to wear. On one hand, we are holding onto summer but, on the other, we can't wait for fall fashion.

That is why we are sharing with you the 4 staple pieces you should already have in your closet and how to style them with your summer clothes.

Knits

Ahh, the beloved knits. They keep us warm during the colder seasons and are super fashionable. They are also a great piece to start transitioning into on those chillier days. You may want to opt for a thinner knit during these transitional times (so you don't overheat).

Here are some ideas how...

  • On the top of a skirt or maxi dress

  • Paired with shorts

  • With beige/cream/white pants

Outerwear

A major sign that fall is here is the jackets. That includes the trench coats, shakets and blazers. We swear they can transform any outfit for fall and make you seem fashionable AF.

A great way to incorporate this outerwear into your later summer wardrobe is to pair it with a cropped sweater or light wash denim, as pictured below.

Be sure not to over-layer or wear all dark colours -- that will send you straight into fall fashion and we're just not ready for that yet.

Button Downs

If we had a dollar for every time we mentioned the button-down in a blog post, we would be rich. We cannot stress this enough when we tell you to get yourself one! They are the crème de la crème of transitional pieces as they are perfect for layering.

As pictured below, you can layer them on top of a sleeveless shirt or underneath a knit/sweatshirt to prep up your look.

Sweatshirt

We are in that beloved time of year where all you need is a sweatshirt when you leave the house. But just because we have to bundle up, doesn't mean we have to cover up, doesn't mean we have to settle with a boring outfit.

We are living for sweatshirts and short skirts or bike shorts right now. We think the oversized shirt paired with a tighter bottom is so cool and will definitely stretch this trend for as long as we can.

Are you getting hot? No problem. Tie your shirt around your shoulders and live your best country-club inspired life.
